SCENE 01 — THE WHY

R.A.W. are initials. It is also a promise.

R.A.W. stands for Ryan Alexander Wohle, but it's also shorthand for what this company exists to do: tell Real Authentic Work. Ryan is a Deaf filmmaker, and he's watched disability get flattened on the screen over and over. Disabilities have been played by the wrong actors and written without the details that make a lived experience true.

This so-called gap is perceived as harmless. When a film gets a disability wrong, audiences carry that misinformation with them, and it's passed on from generation to generation. Many disabilities are already seen as "less capable" simply because people have never seen them portrayed honestly. R.A.W. Production Films is a nonprofit built to close that gap, one authentic story at a time.

    Ryan Wohle is the founder of R.A.W. Production Films. He was born with severe conductive hearing loss, which led him to become a hearing aid user. Now he is trying to change the way disabilities are viewed on the screen.

About The Author

Ryan Wohle is a Deaf writer and filmmaker. He studies filmmaking at California State University, Northridge, in the Film Production program with an emphasis in editing. During the worldbuilding process, Ryan found himself going down the conlang rabbit hole, which inspired him to create his debut book.

Ryan is a person of the eye. He loves being creative. His other hobbies include cooking, baking, skiing, and bowling.
